潛艦國造原型艦預計9月下旬下水，將邀蔡英文總統親自主持。海軍推估，原型艦自下水到服役，快則2024年9月、慢則2025年3月，原型艦將部署18枚型號MK-48-6重型魚雷，其最高時速達到55節，比我現役潛艦使用的德製SUT重型魚雷，速度快60％，最大射程也增加25％。

The domestically-manufactured prototype of a submarine is expected to be launched in late September, and President Tsai Ing-wen will be invited to personally chair the ceremony. The Navy estimates that the submarine prototype will deploy 18 MK-48-6 heavy torpedoes in September 2024 and March 2025, with a maximum speed of 55 knots. The German-made SUT heavy torpedo used by submarines is 60 percent faster, and the maximum range is also increased by 25 percent.

立法院完成修法，開放同性配偶也能收養無血緣子女，準用民法收養的規定。立法院在2019年5月完成立法，開放相同性別2人可向戶政機關辦理結婚登記，成為亞洲第一個開放同性婚姻國家。

The Legislative Yuan passed an amendment permitting same-sex couples to adopt unrelated children based on existing regulations of the Civil Code. In May 2019, the Legislative Yuan passed legislation permitting two people of the same sex to apply for household registration, effectively becoming the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage.

美國「股神」巴菲特執掌的Berkshire Hathaway15日向美國證交會（SEC）遞交的文件顯示，已在今年第1季出清持有的台積電ADR。Berkshire去年第三季砸41億美元，買進台積電ADR，持股達1.41％，一度躋身台積電前10大股東，但隨即第四季出脫86%持股。
巴菲特5月6日出席股東大會時曾指出，美中關係日益緊張，「投資日本比台灣，要更令我放心」。

Berkshire Hathaway founder Warren Buffett submitted a document to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on May 15, showing that the company has cleared American Depository Receipt (ADR) holdings in the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the first quarter. Berkshire invested $4.1 billion in the third quarter of last year to buy TSMC ADRs, holding 1.41 percent of its shares. It once ranked among the top 10 shareholders of TSMC but then sold 86 percent of its shares in the fourth quarter.
While attending the shareholders meeting on May 6, Mr. Buffett indicated that the relationship between the United States and China is becoming increasingly tense. Lamenting geopolitics, Mr. Buffett stated that he "feels better" investing in Japan than Taiwan.

蔡英文總統就職將滿7周年，台灣民意基金會公布最新民調顯示，民眾滿意排行榜第一名是對外關係，其次分別為國防事務55.9％、兩岸關係54.9％。不滿意排行榜則以經濟46.4％居冠，其次為防疫41.7％、司法改革39.5％。

It has been nearly seven years since President Tsai’s inauguration. According to the latest poll released by the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation, the public is most satisfied with foreign relations with an approval rating of 61.5 percent, followed by national defense at 55.9 percent, and cross-strait relations at 54.9 percent. The public is most dissatisfied with the economy with a disapproval rating of 46.4 percent, epidemic prevention at 41.7 percent, and judicial reform at 39.5 percent.

國民黨宣布徵召新北市長侯友宜代表國民黨參加總統大選。侯友宜表示，他參選是為了要贏得國家的光榮、台灣的繁榮，再次政黨輪替。鴻海創辦人郭台銘以臉書發文恭喜侯友宜，自己將信守承諾，盡最大努力支持侯友宜勝選。

The Kuomintang (KMT) announced that it would recruit Mayor Hou Yu-ih of New Taipei as its nominee in the presidential election. Hou stated that he is running to win national glory, Taiwan's prosperity, and another transfer of political power. Terry Gou, founder of the Hon Hai Precision Industry Company (Foxconn) congratulated Hou in a Facebook post. He will keep his promise and do his best to back Hou.

民眾黨通過提名黨主席柯文哲為總統參選人。針對與其他陣營合作的可能性，民眾黨秘書長周台竹表示，民眾黨可以與任何政黨、個人合作，先決條件是理念相同。

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) officially nominated Chairman Ko Wen-je as its presidential candidate. Regarding the possibility of cooperating with other parties, Secretary-General Chou Tai-chu stated that the TPP can cooperate with any political party or individual, but the prerequisite is shared philosophy.

網路借貸媒合平台im.B詐騙案上千人受害，吸金逾50億元。民進黨立委陳歐珀遭指控其宜蘭服務處是主嫌曾國緯詐團大本營。陳歐珀對識人不明鞠躬道歉，強調沒有參與詐騙平台及資金往來。不過全案尚未止血，據指出，曾國緯也曾邀請民進黨卸任院長、部長級大老餐敘。

Thousands of people became victims in the im.B fraud case involving an online lending match-making platform attracting more than NT$5 billion (about US$163 million). The district office located in Yilan of Legislator Chen Ou-po of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has been accused of being the base camp of prime suspect Tseng Kuo-wei's fraud group. Legislator Chen bowed and apologized saying that he had insufficient and inaccurate knowledge about Tseng but stressed that he did not participate in the fraudulent platform and money transactions. However, the legislator's apology has not stopped the bleeding. It is reported that Tseng previously had meals with former DPP premiers and ministers.

美國貿易代表署（ＵＳＴＲ）宣布，美台廿一世紀貿易倡議達成首批協定，將很快簽署，預期深化美台貿易關係並強化美台貿易往來。行政院經貿談判辦公室也表示，已完成貿易便捷化、中小企業等五項議題談判，將在未來數周內簽署首批協定（first agreement）。

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced that the first agreement under the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade will be signed soon. It is expected to deepen U.S.-Taiwan trade relations and strengthen bilateral trade exchanges. The Office of Trade Negotiations, Executive Yuan, stated that the two sides have completed negotiations on five issue areas, including trade facilitation and small and medium-sized enterprises, and look to sign the first agreement in the next few weeks.
